For 30 years, Daan has been surprising his loyal audience with a whirlwind of musical genres, from pop noire to indie rock, electro to country, beats & ballads, usually in English, but sometimes also in Frans of Nederlands. Anyone looking for the common thread in his work will be able to discover in this theater tour that all those songs have something in common; the often melancholic and at the same time humorous lyrics full of visual metaphors (Daan is also a graphic designer) and a (storm and) urge to translate this into almost baroque musical paintings.
This tour distills all his songs in the same musical way; Daan behind the grand piano or guitar, Isolde Lasoen, Daan’s permanent musical muse for 25 years, on vibraphone, drums, trumpet, bells, and angelic vocals, and the virtuoso Jean-François Assy, known as a musician for, among others, Alain Bashung, William Sheller of Yann Thiersen, on his atypical cello.
The more intimate halls with a seated audience give Daan the chance to get closer to the audience, and to take the time to share the stories behind his colorful life path and mysterious lyrics, through which the crooner creates a theatrical cabaret full of emotion and ecstasy. Every evening something just a little bit different happens, because Daan interprets, besides his own repertoire of more than 300 songs, just as gladly & originally his favorite covers, as if they were his own children.
With: Daan Stuyven (piano, guitar, vocals), Isolde Lasoen (drums, vibraphone, trumpet, bells, vocals) and Jean-François Assy (cello)
