The temperamental Nico has to spend the summer in Sicily with his great-aunt Gela. She lives there in an old-fashioned furnished apartment without modern gadgets, there is not even Wi-Fi. The arrival of the lively boy disturbs her daily rhythm, but gradually a moving bond develops and it becomes a summer after which nothing will ever be the same again.
Commentaar
Een heartwarming and tender film with an irresistible duo. The bond between the modern boy and the traditional Sicilian grandmother feels completely authentic. A warm ode to the universal need to get closer to each other, across generation(al differences). Regisseur Margherita Spampinato shows himself with this beautiful debut to be a promising newcomer in contemporary Italian cinema. Gioia Mia was already awarded two prizes at the Locarno Film Festival.
