The Underdog

The sharp songs and soothing stories of Het Onderspit matured over the past few years during more than 200 living room and stage concerts into a balanced musical whole. The music of Het Onderspit is rooted in the same clay as Het Zesde Metaal (that singer Jan Cappelle is the brother of Wannes will surprise no one upon listening), but the air is more American. The debut album ‘Tussen Nog Nie En Nie More’ of the five-piece band was awarded four stars in De Standaard and airplay on Radio 1. This intimate record immediately feels like a real road movie. The songs are not infrequently stories with a barb: about the fight of the little man against loneliness, high work pressure, routines, or false dreams. Live, the band brings a harmonious balance between moving songs that reflect the Flemish soul and light-hearted anecdotes. Whether it is their own material or one of the covers translated into West Flemish, the melancholy and hope always sound through in the sensitive musicality and the interplay of the band.
