JANIVA MAGNESS, On The Road

Janiva Magness (°1957) is from Detroit, Michigan. As a teenager, she ran away from home. She moved to California and went to clubs. There, the blues got a hold of her. Janiva Magness has a beautiful voice, sometimes hoarse, sometimes subdued, sometimes growling and grumbling, and often with a rough edge. She has meanwhile 16 albums to her credit. On them, a lot of own work, but she also understands the art of digging up gems from others and pouring her own sauce over them.
