Exploring the dunes, impact of invasive plants on wild bees.

De Houtsaegerduinen (80 hectares) and the adjacent Kerkepannebos (6 hectares) form an enclosed nature reserve between the residential areas of De Panne and St.-Idesbald, a sub-municipality of Koksijde. This ecologically valuable area of the Agentschap Natuur and Forest is also part of the Dunes and Bossen van De Panne, an extensive and varied nature reserve in the territory of De Panne and Adinkerke. De Houtsaegerduinen have a special biological and landscape value. The dry semi-natural dune landscape with moss, lichen, and marram grass vegetation belongs to the best-developed on the entire coast. The dune calcareous grasslands with rare plants such as common rock-rose and broomrape are also of very great importance. During this guided tour, we will go exploring in the Houtsaegerduinen, looking for wild bees and other typical insects of our coastal dunes. We will also reflect on the impact that invasive plants have on this valuable nature and learn to recognize them. Dogs are not allowed during this guided tour.
