Bruges La Morte? Bruges is Doomed! With this festival for heavy music, alternative metal promoter Samhain and Cactus Muziekcentrum continue to build on the supply of heavy metals in the Venice of the North. After a successful first edition with, among others, High On Fire and Conan as headliners and the concert series with shows by, among others, Deafheaven, Psychonaut, and Pothamus, it is time for a sequel with Wolves In The Throne Room, Oranssi Pazuzu, Worm, Múr, Final Dose, and Primitive Warfare. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM After their crushing passage in 2024, the American atmospheric black metal heroes of Wolves In The Throne Room return to Bruges as the first headliner of Bruges Is Doomed festival! Inspired by the fierce energy of the Pacific Northwest, their music is an ode to the nature of their home region, which they build up with ritual precision and devotion to the true spirit of black metal from pulverizing blastbeats, expansive ambient, and fanning guitar parts. With the trilogy ‘Two Hunters’ (2007), 'Black Cascade' (2009), and 'Celestial Lineage' (2011) for Southern Lord, Wolves In The Throne Room positioned itself in a unique place in the US black metal scene: "somewhere between the crossovers and the kvlt.” Their concerts are a unique, intense, and cathartic experience. ORANSSI PAZUZU Few acts are as free with the rules of heavy music and extreme metal as the Finnish experimental black metal band Oranssi Pazuzu. With their debut album Muukalainen Puhuu (2009), the group already delivered a unique version of underground black metal, which they supplemented throughout albums such as Kosmonument (2011) and Valonielu (2013) with psychedelic and electronic elements to arrive at the recipe for their breakthrough albums Värähtelijä (2016), Mestarin kynsi (2020). The sound of successor Muuntautuja (2024), consisting of chilling shrieks, blistering noise, conjuring rhythms, and excursions towards psych, industrial, free-jazz, and dub, is the most intense thing Oranssi Pazuzu has produced so far. The masterpiece came via Nuclear Blast Records and proves once again the band's reputation as one of the most inimitable acts of their generation. WORM From the swampy depths of Florida’s Everglades crawls one of the most driven and dedicated acts of contemporary underground metal. The ‘Necromantic Black Doom’ of Worm draws inspiration from the foundations of the genre and gives those ideas a new twist. In doing so, the band alternately combines elements from black, doom, and death metal, without wanting to pin itself down to one genre. MÚR With a sound that challenges the boundaries of genres and a vision that stretches creative limits, Múr is a new missionary from the Icelandic volcanic underground. The dark, atmospheric, and boundary-pushing metal of the quintet occasionally beckons to the prog metal of Devin Townsend Project and mid-era Opeth, combined with the technical ingenuity of Neurosis and Gojira. The result is a ‘wall of sound and emotion’, for which Múr draws inspiration from, among other things, film music, the power of nature, inner struggle, and various forms of electronic music. FINAL DOSE Since their inception in 2020, the Britse Final Dose has built a reputation with their mix of the icy malice of black metal with the raw, uncompromising power of punk. On their two albums Void Inside (2023) and Eternal Shadow (2025), they demonstrate their unique sound: fast riffs, fierce vocals, and blackened melodies mixed into an aggressive storm of bone-shattering ferocity. PRIMITIVE WARFARE With their aggressive, lightning-fast blastbeat-driven war metal, Primitive Warfare pushes brutality and misanthropy to new heights. The duo from South Carolina consists of U235 (guitar/vocals) and Pu239 (drums/backing vocals) and has enough power with two members to roll over their audience like a tank. Their combination of black and death metal is known as one of the most barbaric to be found.
