About the book
Politieman Tom Kettle has recently retired and is enjoying his rest in his new house with a view of the Ierse Zee. For months he barely sees a living soul, and only occasionally catches a glimpse of his eccentric landlord and the nervous young mother who has come to live next door. He has plenty of time to muse, for example about his beloved wife June and their children. Until two former colleagues ring the doorbell with questions about a decades-old case, a case that Tom has never been able to fully leave behind, and he seems to become entangled in the darkest corners of his memory.
A novel about one of the darkest pages in Irish history, written by the Irish writer Sebastian Barry, a master storyteller at the top of his game.
