€12–24
Wooden Elephant was founded by Ian Anderson, who worked with Frank Ocean and Jonny Greenwood van Radiohead as a member of the London Contemporary Orchestra and played on A moon shaped pool by the same band. Wooden Elephant does not play songs. Wooden Elephant plays albums. More precisely: Wooden Elephant plays electronic albums on ‘classical’ or analog instruments of wood, steel, and horsehair. Like an alternative journey along classical electronics. Na Homogenic van Björk (CCHA, 2018), Kid A by Radiohead, Lemonade van Beyoncé (CCHA, 2023) and Drukqs van Aphex Twin (CCHA, 2025) Wooden Elephant is now working with In a silent way by Miles Davis. In a silent way from 1969 is an album that changed musical landscapes forever. It is an album that, despite its relatively short playing time, has had a monumental influence. With this work, Davis bridged the gap between traditional jazz and the emerging rock music with musicians like Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul and Dave Holland. The album is not a loud proclamation, but rather a subtle, hypnotic invitation to a new sonic world. At the request of the prestigious Verbier Festival in the heart of the Zwitserse Alpen, Wooden Elephant transforms a silent way into an acoustic reinterpretation for string quintet, drones, and extra ‘instrumentarium’ in this 100th birth year of Miles Davis In. viola Ian Anderson / violin Aoife Nì Bhriain & Hulda Jónsdóttir / cello Stefan Hadjiev / double bass Nikolai Matthews / piano Mathias Halvorsen / © Anne Veldt woodenelephantmusic.com
