Sayfo 1915 Exhibition

Sayfo 1915

Tue, 30 Jun 2026 · 10:00
Escale du Nord (Antenne Scheut), Brussels
The word "Sayfo," which means "the year of the sword" in Aramaic, refers to the genocide suffered by the Syriac people in 1915, an episode still largely unknown in contemporary history. The exhibition also highlights more than a century of resistance, identity reconstruction, and cultural transmission within a diaspora now present in Belgium and Europe. It addresses issues that remain current: the survival of the Aramaic language, the preservation of a millennial heritage, and the recognition of this history in the public space. By hosting this project, the Anderlecht Cultural Center reaffirms its commitment to plural memories and intercultural dialogue.
