Almost Summer: BREAKFIX / Nada & Co.

BREAKFIX is based on the principles of the Japanese art of kintsugi, where breakage and repair are part of an object's history and should not be hidden. BREAKFIX is a duo with many faces, a performance that is simultaneously personal and anonymous, intimate and in search of the absent. It is a story that stutters and cracks, with missing pieces creating holes in the archive, in the flesh, in the mind. The work draws on the imagination of recovery in psychology and asks how we survive what breaks us and how we reconstruct meaning after a break. What emerges is a fragile, provisional, and constantly recreated landscape of texts and objects that echoes with loss and resilience. Recovery is not a return to what was, but the beginning of something new. To find moments of peace, even when things go wrong time and time again. The concept of 'broken' is very subjective. The healing process is also a personal experience. For some, dysfunction can offer a sense of freedom that is in itself a form of recovery. Do we function better when everything goes smoothly, or do we feel most alive when things are shaky, hesitant, and tentative? The inspiration for this project stems from Nada Gambiers's previous research into restorative justice and soft intervention methods, from Wabi-Sabi (the Japanese philosophy that celebrates the aging process with the motto 'nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect'), and from the work Err by Jeremy Hutchison.
