Now that father Willem has stopped singing, son Augustijn continues to sing in West Flemish with ‘full gusto’. His songs float between pop and cabaret, narrative pearls taken from life, full of (self-)relativization. His concerts are disarming and touch every audience. Augustijn grew up in a musical environment. He leaves out his famous surname, although he by no means denies or hides his origins.
After three English-language CDs under the name 'Willemsson', Augustijn's debut album was released in 2019. His second album 'Gin oge toe' was released in 2020. In 2022, ‘Kweethetnie’ was released, his third album. And in 2023 there was the album 'Vier' on which he continues in the singer-songwriter tradition with a sober approach! In the spring of 2025, his fifth CD “En/Of” will already be released. Augustijn closes his eyes and opens his heart. He once received wise advice from his father when he asked if he should give the audience what they wanted, or if he should do his own thing: “It is not OR, it is AND!” Black and white or color? Repeat yourself or renew? Subdued or exuberant? Playful or personal? Funny or serious? Give or take? Exactly: it is not OR, it is AND in this new performance! Honest, personal, and authentic. These are concepts that turn out to be a common thread throughout the sometimes subdued, sometimes rousing, but always accessible music of the singer-musician.
