When furniture salesman Clark (Chiwetel Ejiiofor) discovers a hidden portal in the basement of his store, he becomes trapped in another reality; the so-called Backrooms. His therapist tries to save him and discovers a mysterious labyrinth of abandoned office spaces that not only seem infinite, but also constantly change. As time blurs, something inhuman also appears to be lurking just out of sight. What began as a viral low-budget web series grew into a remarkably ambitious debut film by the very young director Kane Parsons. Backrooms masterfully plays with psychological and existential horror and drags you through an Escherian surreal labyrinth further and further “down the rabbit hole”. An insane debut!
