Twee Brugse jazz drummers each bring their own universe to life: one with cinematic, emotion-driven compositions full of winding jazz, the other with a warm, funky mix of soul, boogaloo, and salsa.
Wie Brugge says, probably doesn't think of drummers immediately. Yet a lot of drum talent is blooming and growing. Steven Van Havere is meanwhile living Bruges drum heritage, but also in the young jazz generation our city has two toppers: Tim Vermeulen and Kobe Gregoir.
Tim Vermeulen developed a distinct musical language throughout the years in which melody and emotion are central. His work starts from a cinematic approach, carried by a clear and rich color palette. Winding jazz, which he can only bring to life thanks to the input of his excellent musical friends.
The set of Kobe Gregoir floats somewhere between soul jazz, boogaloo, and salsa. In a way that only Kobe and his companions can: swinging, funky, and with the necessary flair.
