Sofie Lemaire

In this theater special, Sofie Lemaire dives deep between the folds of time to pry loose some forgotten, stuck, silly figures from the margins and introduce them to you. The result is a beautiful parade of strange ancestors, who each shine in their own way in being a bit silly. Because: nothing as pure and sincere as only half succeeding in something. From the pudding pap of Willem de Veroveraar, to the life-saving left of Peter Tsjaikovski, to the Massief Monsterverbond van Misnoegde Romeinse Madammen… Sofie presents you her endearing study of human folly. By means of her club of less impressive figures, she shows how moving and invigorating a look at the past can be. Bio Sofie Lemaire studied Word Art at the Herman Teirlinck Instituut in Antwerp. Afterwards, she went to work at Studio Brussel, first as a sidekick (at De Grote Peter Van de Veire Ochtendshow) and then as a presenter of programs such as De Wereld van Sofie, 'Spelen met Sofie', and 'Vrienden van de Radio'. When the new channel Vier started, Sofie made the switch to television. At production house Woestijnvis, she worked on De Kruitfabriek and developed the panel program 'Bloot en Speren', which snatched the prize for Best Comedy Format in Cannes during the International Format Awards. After a few years, she returned to the public broadcaster to make Culture Club and Meer Vrouw Op Straat. For several years now, she has been a fixture on Radio 1 with De Wereld van Sofie, a program that has been nominated several times for media awards (Kastaars!, Oorkonde DS Podcastfestival) and was awarded a Belgian Podcast Award last year. Her other podcast Snelle Geschiedenis (VRT MAX) received a successful book translation. Sofie herself won prizes with the Martine Tanghe Publieksprijs for excellent language use.
