Wim Mertens & Wind ensemble - Ranges of Robustness

Cultuurcentrum De Brouckère, Torhout
€24–27
Wim Mertens with brass ensemble: unusually powerful! Wim Mertens is undoubtedly a man of many talents. As a composer, he has been camping for several decades in the absolute top of contemporary classical music with more than 70 albums to his name. Beyond that, he is also an excellent pianist, guitarist, violinist, and singer. His oeuvre, which ranges from the experimental 'For Amusement Only' to classics like 'Struggle for Pleasure' and 'Maximizing the Audience', testifies to melodic finesse, rhythmic power, and compositional layering. On his latest record 'Ranges of Robustness' - which forms the heart of the tour of the same name - Mertens lets himself be accompanied by his brass ensemble. Together they investigate the numerous gradations of the notion of 'robustness'. In just nine compositions, all variants are discussed, 'in the way that our time requires', in the words of Mertens. The contemporary symphonic approach is in line with the robust challenges of today. In addition to this new work, Wim also brings songs like 'Far', 'The Scene', or the world-famous 'Struggle For Pleasure', accompanied by his brass ensemble. After the intimate acoustic concert in church Don Bosco, Mertens brings his brass ensemble this time. Don't miss this because in this concert you will literally and figuratively be blown off your feet!
