Popular Art Deco in the Maritime quarter

The neighborhood around the Tour et Taxis site or "Quartier Maritime" is known for its industrial past. Numerous traces of this history can still be found there: former factories, mills, and other workshops, as well as vast social housing complexes. In the Interwar period, the Foyer Molenbeekois indeed had several housing complexes built there intended for workers and employees. No garden city here, but collective apartment buildings whose architecture references Art Déco or Modernism and which are the work of architects Diongre, De Saulnier, or even Van Meulecom.
