During her life, the music of the German romantic composer Emilie Mayer was often performed; it even earned her the nickname the ‘female Beethoven’. Elisabeth Sangalli-Marr, a contemporary who stood up for the equal rights of women, wrote after Mayer's death “that music was a life calling for her, a life companion, an ideal”. Het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra gives her music the well-deserved attention under the direction of Richard Egarr, a specialist in the genre and a welcome guest in the Koningin Elisabethzaal. Violist Tobias Feldmann, laureate of the Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd in 2015, makes his debut with the orchestra in the delicious Vioolconcerto van Robert Schumann.
