Excursion in the Paddenbroek (Ruien)

Sun, 21 Jun 2026 · 14:00
Paddenbroek (Ruien), Kluisbergen
Free
Het Paddenbroek is a remnant of the old ice age valley of the Scheldt. Here you meet the authentic landscape of the Scheldt valley. It is a small area, but with an incredible wealth of fauna and flora. During the 1000-species year, no fewer than 1,200 different species were observed, including some very rare ones. Not the classic spring bloomers but plants such as marsh marigold, marsh ragwort, hemlock water dropwort, and meadow rue determine the view in a star-shaped water area together with other species such as yellow loosestrife and a variety of sedge species. The marsh area is also a good biotope for many bird species, dragonflies, amphibians, and numerous insects. The nature reserve is not large, making this activity extremely suitable for people who prefer not to do long walks. We mainly walk on the boardwalks, but good walking shoes are recommended. If you have binoculars, definitely bring them to catch the reed birds! Meeting place: 14:00 at the Paddenstraat where there is a small parking lot with an information board.
