Alice Lidell. That is the name of the real Alice, the girl for whom Lewis Caroll created his famous Wonderland. Inhabited by silly figures from their shared environment, the Oxford of 1865: cold-blooded reptile-butlers, a baroness on a bicycle, a grinning Cheshire Cat. The original inhabitants of the book are still alive, down on their luck. With bitter pride, they are witnesses to the enormous success that Alice still enjoys. From which large production houses still get rich, version after version, and they do not see a cent of it. Yet they are the inspiration, the original ideas, the true inhabitants of the book. At their wits' end and with clenched fists full of revolution, they invite the now elderly Alice... to a Tea Party. Tea Party is a research musical by composer Peter Spaepen. He provided text, music, and direction to bring his core question to a live audience: can an artistically inspired art product sprout in a commercially driven field?
