Guided walk: Queer Brugge and the fight for equal rights

In large central cities, the struggle for equal rights from the LGBTQIA+ community was strongly present. But even in smaller cities like Bruges, the community always found ways to come together, speak out, and fight for equality. Did you know that in this city – following Antwerp – the second Conversation and Meeting Center (GOC) was opened? And that Bruges was once in the grip of a lawsuit regarding a dismissal based on sexual orientation? During this walk, we will take you along meaningful places from queer history, from the new millennium to today. You will discover how activists, organizations, and meeting places contributed to the visibility, acceptance, and pride of the LGBTQIA+ community in the city. For example, the Prisma Queer Arts Festival takes place annually: a contemporary arts festival in which queer stories and experiences are central.
