The Purgatory Forests (Vagevuurbossen), the word alone suggests that this region has had a turbulent history. In the vicinity of these forests, a baron was murdered, a lord of the manor was killed, and if children were naughty, they were warned that they would be flown off to Sainte Pier. In any case, this landscape has something special, because if you look around, you see mainly wires, antennas, and also 4 transmission masts, and this was disastrous for many an airplane! But this was once the vital connection with shipping. Speaking of shipping, there has also been a sailing ship here with a specially constructed pond. This was intended for the young people of the state reformatory. Peter De Ram takes you in tow, and through photos and anecdotes, he tells you about the forests and their fauna and flora, the transmission installations of the 'RTT', and the Sint-Pietersveld.
