Sartre is considered the most important French representative of existentialism. In his novels, plays, and philosophical works, the human being who is condemned to his freedom is always central. In a world without God, according to Sartre, he must not avoid the responsibility to create meaning and significance himself. They meet in Café de Flore at the Boulevard Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, where their intellectual life takes place, surrounded by writers, artists, and philosophers.
