In the middle of a performance, the actress Elisabet Vogler loses the use of speech. After a stay in a clinic, she settles for some time on the island of Fårö with her nurse, Alma. The two young women then forge a great complicity that will push Alma to confide in her. But this fusional relationship will very quickly deteriorate.
