Ensemble DRE - Sounds in Motion

The energetic Leuven-based DRE quartet combines classical with jazz, latin, chanson, and neo-classical, always starting from improvisation. Inspired by guitarist Roland Dyens, they bring music by Òlafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Max Richter, and others. With contagious energy and a unique sound, they surprise you with an innovative program. The abbreviation DRE stands for Dyens Roland Ensemble, named after the French composer-guitarist whose music incorporates elements of jazz, Brazilian rhythms, and the French chanson. This influenced the ensemble, which still constitutes the bulk of their repertoire. Improvisation plays a central role in the dynamic concept of this quartet, in which atmosphere and humor are combined with various musical styles. Their most recent repertoire consists of neo-classical music with works by Òlafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Gustavo Santaolalla, Steve Reich, Max Richter, and Matthew Cochran. In this program too, the ensemble departs from improvisations originating from the original part. Ensemble DRE is currently collaborating with Flemish composers Jeroen D’hoe and Pieter Schuermans to write new repertoire for their unique instrumentation.
