Music drama, Damiano Michieletto, 110’, Italian, 2026
Venice, Italy. Beginning of the 18th century. The fate of the virtuoso violinist Cecilia takes a turn when her orphanage hires an ambitious composer as a new music teacher: Antonio Vivaldi.
For the screenplay, Ludovica Rampoldi (Il traditore) drew inspiration from Stabat Mater van Tiziano Scarpa, a novel based on the real life of Vivaldi, the Roman Catholic priest who taught for almost 30 years at the Ospedale della Pietà. In that orphanage, talented girls received a thorough musical education.
The direction is in the hands of Damiano Michieletto, who is debuting as a film director but who has an impressive track record as an opera director.
Hoewel Primavera is not completely historically accurate, the combination of beautiful images and the unforgettable soundtrack by Fabio Massimo Capogrosso results in an imposing costume drama and an immersive journey through time. (based on Sphinx)
