Insect summer: do we see different insects in nature than in the city?

August is the insect month par excellence. Under the name "Insect Summer", Natuurpunt Diest is organizing two walks in which we will go in search of insects. Fortunately, the guide no longer has to know all the names by heart because there is always someone in the group with Obs Identify. The guide can then assess whether the naming by the app is correct, because sometimes it still goes wrong. Our guide, Jan Paenhuysen, wonders if he will see other species and other numbers of insects in Dassenaarde or at the Begijnhof van Diest? Intuitively, we expect more insects in nature, but is that really so? City gardens with flowers that are specially planted for insects can also attract a great variety of species. Or do we see more common species in the city and more rare species in nature? Questions to which we will try to find an answer during these two walks. So download Obs Identify and join us in the search for insects. On August 2, we will walk at 2 PM in Dassenaarde. The starting point is the totem at the Speelplein van Dassenaarde. Park at the new parking lot Op de Schomme, DO NOT PARK AT THE PLAYGROUND ANYMORE. On August 9, we will walk at 2 PM around the Beguinage. The starting point is then the Bezoekerscentrum Webbekomsbroek, where there is ample parking.
