The Grieks-Orthodoxe kerk: an international community

Sun, 13 Sept 2026 · 14:00
Grieks-Orthodoxe kerk, Kortrijk
Free
Get acquainted with the colorful world of the orthodox tradition. Admire the iconostasis, frescoes and impressive Byzantine symbolism in this unique church space. Step into the special world of the Orthodox church Heilige Amandus, established since 2003 in the former Saint Lutgardis Church. This modern creation by architect J. De Jaegere looks sleek and simple on the outside, but surprises inside with rich Byzantine symbolism. An eye-catcher is the imposing dome representing heaven and earth, decorated with New Testament frescoes by Serbian artists. The iconostasis from Minsk with 33 figures of saints also immediately draws attention. Near the entrance is a baptismal font for adults, a symbol of the full spiritual immersion that characterizes the orthodox tradition. Practical info: PLEASE NOTE: this church is only open in the afternoon due to a service in the morning.
