Return to the 16th century: Renaissance and revolts

Sat, 13 Jun 2026 · 14:00
Square du Petit Sablon, Brussels
€15
The 16th century is the century of a difficult hatching, that of our modern world. In the Ten-Sept Provinces, a revolt breaks out, followed by a war that will last 80 years and lead to the first bourgeois nation: the Netherlands. Why this rebellion? And what (involuntary) role did the Incas play? What did the Calvinists want? How have the Netherlands distinguished themselves from Belgium since then? And what happened to Counts Egmont and Hornes so that they later inspired Goethe, Schiller and Beethoven? During this walk, we will feel the earth under our feet become round, look at the world with the eyes of Brueghel, iconic Brussels painter, we will risk the stake and end up in prison ... to better escape through imagination. This visit is organized as part of the Brussels Renaissance Festival 2026
