One of the most beloved plays ever: a 75-year-old classic ‘A Streetcar named Desire’ is a top classic of the Amerikaanse Realisme, and established Marlon Brando’s name as one of the greatest actors of the so-called method acting school, where the actor completely immerses himself in his character. Oscar nomination material, then. Maar de Tramlijn is not a nice, light, and airy play. It tackles some of the most unpleasant social and psychological themes: narcissism, alcohol addiction, domestic violence, and rape. Yet it is one of the most performed and beloved plays in the theater. Precisely because it is so truthful. Because all the roles are such a challenge for actors, who can shine through the lifelike dialogues and characterizations. Through the emotions, which strike the stage like whirlwinds. And through the final chord, brutal and heartbreaking. The play is 75 years old. And still a contemporary cry from the heart. A classic, then. één zee is the theater production house of Ann De Winne and Frank Aernout and has previously brought the repertoire productions ‘Achter de Schermen’ (with, among others, Carry Goossens and Frans Maas), ‘Thuis’ (by Hugo Claus, with, among others, Koen Van Impe, Marleen Merckx and Marilou Mermans), ‘Hamlet’ (with, among others, Michiel De Meyer), and ‘Groenten uit Balen’ by Walter van den Broeck (directed by Stany Crets with, among others, Koen De Bouw, Ben Segers and Tania Van der Sanden).
