Guided tour in the dark

Art park after sunset What happens when the gates of the Middelheimmuseum close and the evening slowly falls over the art park? Discover it during a special evening walk past artworks that only truly come to life when the sun goes down. Under the new moon, our guides will take you through the Middelheimmuseum as you do not see it during the day. We slow down, sharpen our senses, and experience how the darkness makes the familiar strange — and brings the unknown closer. The night is more than the absence of light. It offers space for rest, introspection, and imagination. It invites us to look differently: at art, nature, and ourselves. Yet darkness is under pressure. Artificial light, screens, and constant stimuli make true dark nights increasingly rare. During this walk, we consciously make space for the dark. We discover how artworks shift in meaning when the light changes and listen to the nightlife of the park. Perhaps we will hear a tawny owl, see a serotine bat, or spot a fox? Between art and nature, we experience how the night reconnects — with the environment and with each other. Well surrounded, even in the dark This guided tour aligns with the 10-day event of the Geestelijke Gezondheidszorg, in which the theme 'Well surrounded' is central. Resilience often grows in connection: with other people, with nature, and with moments of rest and attention. Life constantly moves between light and dark, between openness and vulnerability. Not everything needs to be clear or solved all the time. Silence, shadow, and uncertainty are also part of life.
