A unique musical narrative A prehistoric human founds a village. What? There are those books that have started to lead a life of their own over time. Take, for example, Houtekiet, the masterpiece by Gerard Walschap, about the founding of the village of Deps… in this performance, Jeroen Lenaerts – known as Tim from Thuis – brings the story to life. He crawls into the skin of De Wolfmens for this, and brings this pagan gospel, full of dedication. About the origin of civilization and the struggle between old and new is at the same time a blueprint of the human: love, life, and death. Lenaerts’ voice and acting are enveloped by the hypnotic sounds of the mandolin quartet MANdolinMAN and electronics wizard Mathijs Bertel (Ansatz Der Maschine). The performance combines old melodies with modern beats, soundscapes, and projections by Lot Vandekeybus, giving the story a magical, cinematic dimension. The music of this production was awarded the Flanders Folk Award 2023 for Beste Album and reached the top 20 of the World Music Charts Europe. Very last chance to discover this magnificent performance! From 9:30 PM, the foyer of Leietheater turns into a warm dance floor for the FOLK BALL. The folk band of KADE led by Maarten Decombel & guests provide infectious folk tunes to which everyone is welcome to shake a leg. The folk ball is completely free and freely accessible. You can attend it separately, even without a ticket for the performance.
