Football has everything: triumph, misery, adultery, drama, loud shouting, and people who think they know better than the trainer. The football game naturally contains all the elements for a Groot Grieks Drama. In De Canadeise Meur throw Herman Brusselmans and Tom Lanoye the football field onto the stage. Two former friends meet again, two women are dragged into the intrigues, and an old father turns out to possess a well-lined wallet. The result is a sharp and absurd performance full of collisions, old frustrations, and witty outbursts. Even those who don't understand anything about offside are in the right place here. Koning Voetbal dominates the lives of many. Supporters, journalists, board members, order services, and wives. Yes, the football game naturally contains all the elements for a Groot Grieks Drama: triumph and schadenfreude, adultery and sensation, tragedy and singing together ... However ... How many theater plays do you know in which the plot is determined, or even influenced, by the Football Gods? Not one, right? Herman Brusselmans and Tom Lanoye have felt that an end must be put to this unjustified situation. Under the motto 'the theater is the mirror of our society', they have written a piece that is full of the Ball. A piece that deals with money, unattainable dreams, long-gone times, broken friendships, and broken kneecaps. A piece about football, therefore. A game in which two former friends meet again after years, in which two women are the plaything of intrigues and gender roles, and in which an old father is the only one with a well-lined wallet. The result is devoid of seriousness and humor.
