Ghent Folk Violin Project (GFVP) is back. The paths of these passionate musicians cross again, and the desire to step onto the stage together is greater than ever. The unique sound of four ‘swinging’ folk violins and a rhythmic guitar still forms the beating heart of the ensemble. Traditional and new compositions flow effortlessly into each other, enriched with ten extra years of stage experience. What emerges is a musical encounter in which passion, craftsmanship, and playing pleasure are central. The diverse backgrounds of the violinists melt together into a tight, almost vibrato-less sound, carried by a versatile and subtle guitar. The result is a rich and layered sound that navigates between folk, classical, world music, and jazz. In 2025, GFVP released the album OGOPOGO, which received rave reviews. For example, Folk Magazine described it as “mysterious and wonderful,” while Folk Wales called it “extremely impressive.” The album also received attention in Music Matters on VRT Klara and in Le Monde est un Village on RTBF. Less than two years after the release of OGOPOGO, the quintet is diving back into the studio. The new album, planned for the spring of 2027, again contains strong instrumental compositions, but this time also explicitly explores the fusion with the human voice. For this, GFVP is working with the Italian singer Livia Giaffreda and is delving into the rich singing tradition of their own soil together with Marc Hauman. by and with Lotte Remmen, Anouk Sanczuk, Naomi Vercauteren, Wouter Vandenabeele (violin) and Jeroen Knapen (guitar) De Academie for Music, Word, and Dance organizes performances together with Vrije tijd Mortsel to give the talents of its teachers a well-deserved stage.
