Oorlogsstemmen Speelduur: 50 min More than a hundred W.W. I, is more than a hundred years of searching for the why and giving meaning, processing and drawing lessons, licking wounds and cherishing scars. A conflict as an infinite source of inspiration for war songs and protest songs, as a breeding ground for every small or large story. In Oorlogsstemmen gives Guy Verlinde an overview of the consequences of W.W.I., using anecdotes, poems, and war songs. In addition, he makes the link to today and discusses the challenges and threats we face as a society (Ukraine, refugee crisis, Iran, propaganda & fake news, etc.). The audience is also introduced to important historical dissenting voices such as Siegfried Sassoon, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela. His protest songs and those of, among others, Bob Dylan show the power of music and poetry as a means of resistance against armed conflicts. All songs are sung in Dutch so that everyone can follow and understand the lyrics. This performance was developed in close collaboration with the In Flanders Fields museum in Ypres. Over the past two decades, Guy Verlinde (Aartrijke/Ghent °1976) has dominated the Belgian blues scene. He recorded 17 albums and played in countless clubs and festivals, where he shared the bill with greats like B.B. King, John Fogerty, Tony Joe White, Santana, John Hiatt, Canned Heat, and Jeff Beck. Guy Verlinde is among the few Belgian blues artists who have built a live reputation across Europe. He has a unique ability to connect with his audience, always managing to touch and inspire them anew.
