This guided tour around Rijschoolstraat exposes a thousand years of layered Leuven history. In Sint Maartensdal we discover how a fourteenth-century priory transformed through a barracks period into the visionary, modernist residential project of Renaat Braem. Next, we walk towards the Tweebronnen library, where a similar transformation took place. On the historical foundations of the medieval Witte Vrouwenklooster and the later Witte Vrouwenkazerne, Henri Van de Velde built his modernist gem during the interwar period. Walk along and see how religion, military display and innovative architecture are intertwined in Leuven.
