The walk is part of the 10-day event 'Samen Veerkrachtig'. The story of the linden What does it mean to be well surrounded? During the 10-day event 'Samen Veerkrachtig', the Middelheimmuseum invites you to reflect on the relationship between nature, art, and well-being. This year, we are paying special attention to our senses. You will experience this during this walk. We start at Tausend Zungen van Thomas Schütte, an artwork that hides in the crown of a monumental linden tree. The ceramic tongues move with the wind and seem to whisper together with the tree. The work invites us to look more attentively, to listen, and to perceive our environment more consciously. From there, tree expert Nico D'Hamers takes us through the park's linden lane. During this walk, you will discover the linden from a historical, ecological, and cultural-historical perspective. Why did the linden grow into a tree that occupied a special place in our villages, stories, and rituals for centuries? And how do the linden trees in the Museumpark still tell us something today about the interaction between humans and nature? By looking, listening, and reflecting attentively on these living heritage bearers, we experience how our environment not only surrounds us but also connects us with each other and with a shared history.
