Late-night exhibition opening (Un)lit - Glass plates in the collection of Amsab-ISG

Tijdens de Late Donderdag of the Gentse Musea on June 4, the exhibition (Un)exposed – Glass plates in the collection of Amsab-ISG is exceptionally open until 10 p.m. Anyone who would like more background on the exhibition can register for free for the guided tour at 7:30 p.m. via this link . --- In the analog era, photos were long captured on glass plates, which could later be developed or projected. Fragile in form, but remarkably sharp and full of detail. In the exhibition (Un)exposed , you will get to know the glass plate collection of Amsab-ISG. Due to their fragility, these images remained literally underexposed for a long time, but thanks to a digitization project, they now form a rich treasure trove of historical photos that you can admire up close. You will travel through time with glass plates from, among others, the collections of Vooruit and Volksgazet (1950s–1960s) and those of private collector Lateur (late 19th–first half of the 20th century). Along the way, you will discover how glass plates were used and how they are preserved and made accessible today. The real eye-catchers are, of course, the photos themselves. After all, posing for the lens is timeless and yields images that are often heartwarming and surprisingly recognizable.
