Of the more than twenty piano concertos that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed, only two are in minor. Het Klavierconcerto No. 24 in C minor, KV 491, is considered one of his most advanced works in the genre, deeply loved by Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms. Mozart completed it in March 1786, just before the premiere of Le nozze di Figaro. Two works that flank each other in the Köchel Verzeichnis, but which differ completely: the opera rejoices, the concerto broods. Het Klavierconcerto No. 21 in C major, KV 467, was created a year earlier, in March 1785. Mozart is in his early thirties and at the peak of his abilities. Between the two pianistic milestones, Haydn lets the sun rise with his sparkling Symphony No. 6 ‘Le matin’. It is canonical classical, in excellent hands with the golden duo Il Gardellino & Pashchenko: sparkling contrasts, brio without pretension, and endless storytelling ability.
