In 2026, it will be exactly 50 years since the debut single of The Sex Pistols, Anarchy in the UK, was released. Punk was born: deafening, brutal, dirty, and raw, and with a raised middle finger, the group caused a true shockwave in the UK, which was plagued by crisis and unemployment. Glen Matlock, the original bassist of The Sex Pistols, tells, with a wealth of historical footage and interviews, the origin story of the band, the release of the first single, and the debut LP Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. Commentaar Dit debut album, which was immediately confronted with censorship and boycott actions, is now considered one of the most important and influential albums in pop history. Verteller Matlock turns out to be surprisingly gentle, miles away from the common image of the brutal Sex Pistols. Not surprising that he soon clashed with Johnny Rotten. Matlock left the band after the release of the debut album, but his influence is indelible.
