Film: La Primavera

The 18th-century Venice offers few opportunities for Cecilia, who grows up in the Ospedale della Pietà. She is a talented violinist, but when she performs for benefactors and sponsors, she must always stand behind a screen or wall. Her only way out of this holy house, run by strict nuns, seems to be an arranged marriage. But when the institution hires an ambitious composer as her new teacher, Cecilia’s life takes an unexpected turn. The composer is, after all, Antonio Vivaldi. ‘Primavera’ is based on the novel ‘Stabat Mater’ by Tiziano Scarpa and on the life of Vivaldi, who was a priest and taught at the Ospedale della Pietà for almost thirty years.
