Makam Trio

This Sunday afternoon we dive into the world of Ottoman and Turkish classical music with the Makam Trio. From ancient traditions and modal systems, the makams, arises a soundscape full of refined melodies, microtonal intervals and a deep emotional charge. With ney, oud, tanbur, percussion and vocals, the trio weaves tradition and improvisation into a living whole: meditative, expressive and at the same time surprisingly contemporary. The result is music that touches just as much in silence as in sound, and that manages to enchant both connoisseurs and curious listeners. Makam Trio originated as a duo, from the musical meeting between Mevlüt Akgüngör (ney and tanbur) and Robert Micin (oud). Together with Hilde De Clercq (percussion and vocals) they bring a selection from the rich repertoire of Turkish classical and mystical Sufi music, including taksim, pesrev, ilahi, şarkı and sazsemai, but also contemporary compositions in various makams. The three musicians, each master of their craft, share a passion for authentic expression and musical dialogue. Their interplay is refined, meditative and compelling, and appeals to both connoisseurs and new listeners.
