Agatha’s Almanac

90-year-old Agatha Bock is both fragile and rock-solid. She still lives alone on the family farm in Canadese Manitoba. She has no running water, no telephone, no driver's license. She lives solitarily but does not feel lonely. There is much to do in the vast gardens where she sows and harvests, from potatoes to strawberries and melons. Agatha’s daily rituals form a strong contrast to modern life. Amidst plenty of greenery, she talks in her sober way about her daily life, but also the death of her sister or suitors she wanted nothing to do with. She sees life as a privilege, even if it is not always easy. Her daily life consists of making things – as many generations before her did. Multidisciplinary artist and Agatha’s niece Amalie Atkins filmed for six years and with a small female crew the artisanal world of her aunt who lives according to the calendar of nature. This beautiful portrait of a forgotten lifestyle was chosen as the best Canadian documentary at the prestigious film festival Hot Docs.
