Guido Belcanto

On a scorching hot summer day, Guido Belcanto - the Emperor of the Life Song - drove his silver Cadillac to the Brusselse Jubelpark. Voor Jef Lambeaux’ monumental relief De Menselijke Driften he recognized not only the human in all his lusts and shadows, but also himself: the young busker with songs by, among others, the Zangeres Zonder Naam, the man who later sang his own desires, without shame but with compassion and humor. Now the Cadillac is traveling through Belgium and the Netherlands again, with a new record in the trunk, Het Paviljoen der Menselijke Driften, alongside old classics, some murder ballads and his versions of songs by Loudon Wainwright III, David McWilliams and the Zangeres Zonder Naam. For this, he was given access to the original recordings. A concept, the show Paviljoen der Menselijke Driften does not have. Or rather: the concept is Guido. Expect the unexpected, brought by a veteran who can still do it, with a sweet, lived-in voice and the full power of his band.
