After the once-so-sparkling André has also chased away his last home nurse, his daughter Anne sees no other way out than to take her dementing father into her home. The care for André puts the relationship between parent and child under high tension. What follows is a confusing maze, in which truth and fiction become increasingly difficult to distinguish from each other. ‘De Vader’ is a psychological drama that takes an intimate look at the crumbling reality of a man with dementia. An intriguing family portrait in which the limits of ‘loving’ and ‘unconditional love’ are pushed to their extreme. How do you communicate with someone who experiences a different reality? How do you slowly say goodbye to someone who no longer recognizes you? ‘De Vader’ (Florian Zeller) was buried under international awards and the 2020 film adaptation with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman was a huge success.
