Art Deco between shops and warehouses

Sun, 13 Sept 2026 · 10:00
In front of Sainte-Catherine Church, Place Sainte-Catherine, Brussels
€10–15
Nestled between the Sainte-Catherine church and the place de l’Yser, the quay district preserves the traces of the former Brussels port activity, both through its toponymy and the very particular urban morphology of its large boulevards. In the 1910s, this district underwent a significant transformation after the filling in of the basins and the disappearance of the large port warehouses. During the interwar period, new boulevards were erected there, which explains the presence of an important series of buildings in a style mainly related to the Art Déco. An intense commercial activity developed there and remains there today: as evidenced by the concentration of numerous wholesale trade firms, sometimes represented by remarkable Art Déco ensembles. This visit invites you to discover this varied Art Déco heritage, between shops, luxury apartments, and social housing, a stone's throw from the city center.
