repeated due to success! In 2026 it was 300 years ago that Count de Ferraris was born. About 250 years ago his surveying team came to Torhout to see what our city looked like. They made a map of the then Zuidelijke Nederlanden. This map, the Ferraris map, still fascinates us. This year a guide will be published with walks that point to the environment of the past. Martine Vandecavey and Rik Deketelaere co-authored this guide with a Torhout walk. That walk is much longer and definitely recommended. The guide is expected in bookstores at the beginning of June. For the heritage walk that we walk together, Martine and Rik are the perfect guides. They show us in the center of the current Torhout what is on the map. We discover what can still be found after all this time. Hendrik Vandeginste provides background on some places about what the centuries-old history is.
