W.E.R.F. records invites Chicago Underground Duo

The legendary alchemists of jazz, post-rock, and electronica Toen Rob Mazurek and Chad Taylor Chicago Underground Duo founded in the late nineties, there was no mapped-out plan for what they were going to do. They drew inspiration from jazz, improvisation, electronics, and the adventurous spirit of the independent music scene of Chicago, and thus became one of the first groups to discover a truly fertile meeting point between jazz and post-rock. Long before such crossovers became commonplace, their music already found connections between the openness of improvisation and the hypnotic pulse that also inspired bands like Tortoise, their frequently crossing collaborators. Almost three decades later, Chicago Underground still sounds remarkably unconstrained. Their latest album Hyperglyph, released by the cult label International Anthem from Chicago, marks a new chapter in a partnership that has never ceased to evolve. The album unfolds as a collection of signals, symbols, and fragments that gradually reveal hidden relationships and take listeners into a rich sonic landscape where acoustic instruments, electronics, and improvisation effortlessly merge.
