One chord. Two times six strings. No, three. Two voices. One bass. One pedal steel. And one pair of brushes. That is all Nils De Caster and Sara De Smedt need to set the tone on their new record Take This Stone. The finely phrased guitars intertwine, the voices wind seductively around each other. You can easily see them sitting there playing, the musicians, on the porch, with a glass within reach, somewhere in the hills, on a sultry summer evening at a setting sun. It could have been the Appalachians. But just as well the terrace of a café in the Vlaamse Ardennen.
