Lecture by Erik Vlaminck - Engagement in literature

Who gets a voice in our society? And what can literature mean in that? On Wednesday, June 3, we welcome writer and theater maker Erik Vlaminck for a lecture on engagement in literature. Vlaminck is known to many readers for novels such as Suikerspin , Brandlucht , De Zwarte Brug and Een berg mens onder witte lakens . In addition, he wrote the Brieven van Dikke Freddy for years, in which a homeless man asks questions to politicians and institutions. Simple, but often painfully accurate. His engagement is strongly linked to his background: before he became a writer, he worked in psychiatry and homeless care. That experience forms the basis of his work. That engagement also takes a concrete form in his theater texts. In boeren , he shows how farmers today are stuck between their passion for the profession and the pressure of regulations, economic uncertainty and scaling up. During this lecture, Erik Vlaminck addresses the question of what engagement means for a writer today, and what role literature can play in our society. Participation is free, but please register in advance via bibliotheek@pepingen.be.
