De Doode Bemde, located in the Dijle Valley between Oud-Heverlee and Neerijse, forms the beating heart of the recently recognized Nationaal Park Brabantse Wouden. This exceptionally well-preserved alluvial river landscape is among the most beautiful in Western Europe and houses a rich biodiversity and valuable heritage. Maar De Doode Bemde is more than a nature reserve: it is a quiet, enchanting place where kingfishers and beavers belong, and where peace, darkness, and space contribute to our mental well-being and the connection between man and nature. For this project, we are collaborating with artist Roxane Métayer, who, together with a network of artists and heritage partners, is developing a poetic and sensory exploration of the landscape. The result will be a contemporary and accessible heritage project that connects art, nature, and history in a fresh way. The presentation of the project is scheduled for the weekend of June 18, 19, 20, and 21, 2026, and will be a richly filled program with guided walks, lectures, workshops & performances! The full program can be found via https://huldenberg.be/doodebemde
